I found a similar species in 2016 and i have identified it as Artianus interstitialis. I think that it is a better match than Athysanus. I think that an expert would have to interject.
Wow, that's a tough one, John.
I had overlooked the species that you suggest, but as they are so similar I hope that Herbert will check the forum and contribute his dictum. Or anyone who has an opinion.
Anyway, thanks a lot for your suggestion!
Best regards,
Konrad
I think that the pronotum is diagnostic, atleast it is drawn differently in my book of keys. Also the wings are drawn differently. The dark brown marks are drawn for Artianus.
I hope that Dr. Nickel sees your post someday and replies. I have identified it as Artianus but i am not an expert and i have alot to learn.
Hi, John,
I understand what you say and also the area where I found it (gras on sandy ground next to the Danube) speaks for Artianus interstintialis. At the same time, I would not be able to see great differences between the photos of these two species as shown in the Fotoatlas der Zikaden Deutschlands. Will look things up on the British Bugs website later tonight.
Have a nice weekend,
Konrad
